Are you an experienced Senior Backend Java Developer with strong DevOps knowledge, looking to take ownership of complex backend development and contribute to modern software solutions? This is an opportunity to work on business-critical applications, influence technical decisions and take responsibility for solutions throughout the entire development lifecycle.
Our client is an established Swiss software and technology organisation specialising in the development of innovative business solutions. As part of a collaborative engineering team, you will contribute to the ongoing development of a key scholarship management platform, working closely with software development, architecture and operations teams to deliver reliable, secure and high-performance applications.
You will design and develop backend applications using Java, Jakarta EE and Quarkus, translating business requirements into robust business logic, interfaces and automated administrative processes. You’ll take ownership of new features from initial analysis and technical design through to implementation, code reviews, automated testing and deployment, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable and fit for purpose.
Beyond hands-on development, you’ll bring a strong DevOps mindset, contributing to the continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment processes. Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift and cloud hosting environments will be particularly valuable, as you’ll work across development and operations to improve application stability, security and performance.
The ideal candidate will bring commercial Java backend development experience, with strong knowledge of Jakarta EE, Quarkus, PostgreSQL and SQL. You’ll have experience developing complex business logic, interfaces and automated tests, alongside practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, modern development tools and cloud infrastructure. Familiarity with GitLab, Jira, Confluence and SonarQube will also be beneficial. A recognised qualification in Computer Science or equivalent experience is expected, alongside German language skills at B2 level or above, both written and spoken.
